Charlie, a gay man in his mid-40s and weighing around 600 lbs, teaches writing over the internet. His health is failing. He has invited his teen-aged daughter Ellie, whom he hasn’t seen in more than 15 years, to come for a visit. Before she gets there he receives a visit from a young Mormon missionary and his friend Liz, who is a nurse and looks after him. Liz examines Charlie and tells him his condition is serious and he needs to go to the hospital. But Charlie stubbornly refuses. When Ellie arrives, she proves to be a difficult, anti-social teenager. Nonetheless, Charlie is desperate to reconnect with her. He tries to establish a bond with her by helping her with her writing assignments. In this touching and humorous play, we see the devastation of loss on one man’s life and his life-and-death struggle for salvation.
